Recently Cloud9Ortho attended the PCSO meeting in sunny San Diego, CA. It was a beautiful location with great views and plenty of sun (at least we heard there was plenty of sun, as we were in the exhibit hall all day)!
We had some users stop by and say "hi" and tell us how much they love Cloud9 but especially how much they love our support team because when they call everyone is so helpful! We enjoy hearing these things from our users and will continue to work hard to have the best support team in the industry.
We also were approached by many new doctors looking to replace their software or starting a practice looking for new software. Many of them heard about us from their friends who either use Cloud9Ortho or have heard about us from others. It was a very productive meeting and we are very excited about working with new offices on the west coast!
One of our users, Dr. Ron Maddox, came by and offered to take us out to dinner that night. We graciously accepted and had a great dinner with Dr. Maddox. After the meeting we got to check out his new car, the Tesla model S.
For those of you who do not know, Teslea Motors (http://www.teslamotors.com/) is a company led by Elon Musk, who also co-founded Paypal. Musk is trying to change the auto industry by introducing all electric cars that can go farther on a charge, ride comfortably and do so in a safe way. The Telsa has received extremely high marks for its performance and safety and competes head-to-head with Mercedes Benz and Porsche for best luxury car. The neat thing about the Tesla is that it is all electric and requires no gas engine as a backup. They have their doubters and they have their supporters but one thing is for certain, Musk is out to change the auto industry.
After dinner we got to take it for a test ride with Dr. Maddox, which was pretty awesome! We won't say how fast we went but we are glad the cops were somewhere else - we pulled a lot of "Gs." After the test ride we started thinking about the parallels between Cloud9Ortho and Tesla Motors. Cloud9Ortho was the first browser based practice management software built specifically for orthodontists. When we launched in Chicago two years ago, other companies said, "It will never work," "Imaging will be too slow," and "The cloud is regressive, it's like putting bands on every tooth" and so on. We heard it all. Elon Musk has heard it all as well. We did not let the detractors deter us and we pushed forward with the same goal as Tesla - to change an industry. We are changing the way orthodontists can practice with our software just as Tesla is changing the way you can drive a car.
Before Cloud9Ortho, offices told us they spent thousands on IT and backups and always had headaches with servers. They said it took 5-10 minutes to load images in their satellite offices. The list goes on and we are so happy to be able to help offices and make their lives easier. We will continue to strive forward and while we are not as big as Tesla, we love it when people take risks to change an industry for the better!
